Port Richey Full Day Inshore Fishing Charter

This full day inshore fishing charter puts you right in the heart of some of Florida's most productive shallow water fishing grounds. For $800, you and one other angler get a private boat all to yourselves for a solid day of chasing everything from hard-fighting snook to trophy redfish. I'll take you to my best spots around Port Richey's inshore waters, where the grass flats, mangrove shorelines, and oyster bars hold some serious fish. We're talking about a hands-on, no-rush kind of day where you'll learn techniques that work and walk away with stories worth telling. All your gear, bait, and licenses are covered – just bring yourself and get ready to fish.

What to Expect on the Water

We'll start early and make the most of every hour, hitting different areas based on the tides and what the fish are doing. Port Richey's inshore waters give us incredible variety – one minute we're sight-fishing redfish on shallow flats, the next we're working structure for snapper or casting into mangrove pockets for snook. The beauty of a full day charter is flexibility. If the bite is hot in one spot, we stay put. If we need to move and adjust tactics, we've got time to do it right. I'll have you fishing with light tackle that makes every fish feel like a monster, whether we're bottom fishing around structure, trolling the edges, or throwing topwater plugs at first light. The boat stays comfortable even on longer runs, and I'll keep you in fish while teaching you the techniques that consistently produce out here.

Techniques That Get Results

My approach changes throughout the day based on conditions, but you'll get to experience the full range of inshore fishing methods. Early morning often means topwater action with plugs and poppers – there's nothing like watching a big snook or redfish explode on a surface lure. As the sun climbs, we'll switch to soft plastics, live bait, or spoons depending on what's working. When we're targeting structure fish like snapper and grouper, we'll drop down with lighter bottom rigs that let you feel every tap and bump. Fly fishing is always an option if you're into it, especially when we find tailing redfish or laid-up tarpon. I keep multiple rods rigged so we can switch tactics fast when the bite changes. The spinning and trolling setups are perfectly balanced for these waters – light enough to feel the fight but with enough backbone to turn fish away from cover.

Top Catches This Season

Snook are the crown jewel of inshore fishing around Port Richey, and for good reason. These fish are smart, aggressive, and fight like nothing else in shallow water. They love structure – docks, mangroves, oyster bars – and they'll absolutely crush a well-presented lure. Best action usually happens during moving water, and they're most active in warmer months, though you can catch them year-round if you know where to look. What makes snook special is their attitude – they'll follow a lure, study it, then either ignore it completely or slam it so hard you think you've hooked bottom. Grey snapper might not get the same headlines, but they're scrappy little fighters that bite year-round and make excellent table fare. They're structure-oriented fish, so we'll target them around rocky areas, ledges, and artificial reefs. They're curious but cautious, making them fun on light tackle.

Tarpon are the giants of the flats, and even juvenile tarpon will give you a workout you won't forget. These silver kings are most active in warmer months and love to roll and jump, making for some spectacular fights. They're catch-and-release only, but landing one is a badge of honor every angler should earn. Redfish are probably the most consistent inshore species we target – they eat well in all kinds of conditions and fight hard from the first run to the net. Look for them in shallow water, around oyster bars, or cruising grass flats. They're beautiful fish with a distinctive black spot near the tail, and they're excellent eating if you decide to keep one within regulations. Cobia are the wild cards of the trip – they're not always around, but when they show up, you're in for something special. These brown sharks of the flats are curious fish that will follow the boat and eat big baits with authority. They're strong fighters and fantastic on the table.

Time to Book Your Spot

Port Richey's inshore waters offer some of the most diverse and productive fishing on Florida's west coast, and this full day charter gives you the time to really experience what these waters have to offer. You'll fish multiple techniques, target different species, and learn from someone who knows these waters inside and out. The $800 rate covers everything you need for two anglers, making it a solid value for a private, full day fishing experience. Remember that deposits are non-refundable, so plan accordingly, but also know that you're booking a trip that consistently puts anglers on fish. Whether you're looking to improve your technique, catch your personal best, or just spend a quality day on the water, this charter delivers the kind of hands-on fishing experience that keeps people coming back to Port Richey's productive inshore grounds.

Learn more about the species

Cobia

Cobia are dark brown, shark-looking fish that cruise our nearshore waters, typically running 30-50 pounds around Port Richey. They're mostly solitary fish found around structure like reefs, wrecks, and channel markers in 20-60 feet of water. Spring migration from March through May offers our best shot at them, though we see some throughout summer. What gets anglers excited about cobia is their aggressive nature and premium table quality - firm, white meat that rivals any fish in our waters. They'll eat just about any bait presented right and fight hard with powerful runs. The trick with cobia is sight fishing - they often cruise just under the surface. When you spot one, cast a bucktail jig or live bait well ahead of them and work it slowly back.

Cobia

Grey Snapper

Also called mangrove snapper, these crafty fish are scattered throughout our local waters around structure. They're typically 12-16 inches inshore, though deeper waters can produce 3-4 pounders. You'll find them around docks, rocks, and grass edges where they ambush crabs and small fish. They're active year-round in our area, but summer months bring the most consistent action. What guests love about grey snapper is their willingness to bite and their outstanding table quality - firm, white, flaky meat that's perfect for the dinner table. These fish are notorious for being line-shy and cautious. My go-to trick is using a fluorocarbon leader and letting live shrimp sit still on the bottom rather than jigging it around. Too much movement spooks them off.

Grey Snapper

Redfish

Redfish are perfect shallow water targets with their copper-bronze backs and distinctive black spots near the tail. Most of our local reds run 20-28 inches and put up a solid scrap in skinny water. You'll find them on grass flats, around oyster bars, and in water so shallow their backs sometimes show. They feed year-round here, but fall and winter offer some of our best action. What makes redfish great is their aggressive nature and excellent eating quality - sweet, firm meat that grills perfectly. Plus, watching them cruise the flats with their backs exposed is pure sight-fishing excitement. When targeting reds in super shallow water, approach them from downwind and cast well ahead of cruising fish. They spook easily in skinny water, so keep your distance and let them come to you.

Redfish

Snook

Snook are one of our most popular targets around Port Richey's mangrove shorelines and grass flats. These sleek, silver fish with the distinctive black lateral line typically run 18-30 inches, though bigger ones lurk in deeper channels. They're ambush predators that love structure - docks, mangrove roots, and oyster bars are prime spots. Spring through fall offers the best action, especially around dawn and dusk when they're actively feeding. What makes snook special is their explosive strikes and acrobatic fights, plus they're excellent table fare with firm, white meat. The key to hooking more snook is keeping your bait natural - when using live shrimp or pinfish, let them swim freely near cover rather than constantly moving them. Patience pays off with these fish.

Snook

Tarpon

Tarpon are the silver kings of our waters - massive, powerful fish that can reach 6 feet and 100+ pounds. Around Port Richey, we typically see them from late spring through early fall when they're moving through our coastal waters and feeding in the shallows. They love warm water around grass flats, channels, and nearshore structure. What makes tarpon fishing so special isn't the eating - they're mostly catch and release - it's watching a 100-pound fish launch itself 8 feet out of the water. The fight is pure adrenaline with multiple jumps and long runs. Here's the thing about tarpon: when they jump, bow to the fish by dropping your rod tip toward them. This keeps slack in the line and prevents them from throwing the hook during those spectacular aerial shows.
